Mattiebelle Gittinger Awarded 2009 George Hewitt Myers Award

The Textile Museum announced today that Mattiebelle Gittinger, one of the foremost researchers and scholars in the field of Southeast Asian textiles, has been chosen as the 2009 recipient of the Museum’s George Hewitt Myers Award, one of the highest accolades in the field of textile arts. The Myers Award, named for The Textile Museum’s founder and
given by the Museum’s Board of Trustees, recognizes an individual’s lifetime achievements and exceptional contributions to the field.

TM Promotes Two Curators

April 27, 2009-

The Textile Museum Promotes Two Curators

The Textile Museum announced today that Sumru Belger Krody has been promoted to curator and Lee Talbot has been promoted to associate curator, of the Eastern Hemisphere Collections. Krody will continue to head the department and to pursue curatorial work in her area of expertise, including researching and cataloguing the museum’s collection of Islamic and Late Antique textiles, developing exhibitions, producing scholarly materials and interpreting the Museum’s collection through educational programs, and chairing the
Museum’s staff Research, Publication, Library and Education task force. Talbot will continue to chair the Museum’s internal Exhibitions Task Force, acting as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, and to pursue
curatorial work focused on the Museum’s collection of textiles from Korea, China and Japan through exhibitions, publications and programs.

TM Elects Paul M. Schwartz to Board of Trustees

The Textile Museum Elects Paul M. Schwartsz to the Board of Trustees

The Textile Museum announced today that Paul N. Schwartz was elected to the Museum’s Board of Trustees at their April 3, 2009 meeting. On accepting his appointment to the Board, Schwartz said “I am pleased to join The Textile Museum’s unique and far-reaching community as a member of the Board of Trustees. I believe the Museum fulfills a singular role in the field and is well positioned in today’s economy with a balanced budget and a committed core constituency.” He serves on the board’s Budget and Finance, Development and Audit Committees.

TM Appoints New Management

March 25, 2009–
The Textile Museum Appoints New Management
The Textile Museum announced today that Maryclaire Ramsey has been appointed general manager. The Textile Museum is now under leadership of a management committee led by Ramsey and including Douglas Maas, the Museum’s chief financial and administrative officer. These management changes follow the resignation of former Director Daniel Walker.

The Textile Museum announced today that Director Daniel Walker has resigned, effective March 23, 2009. Walker has served as director since May 2005.

Join Kate Lenkowsky, author of Contemporary Quilt Art: An Introduction and Guide, to learn how tradition influences contemporary artists. A book signing will precede the lecture. Following the talk, enjoy a wine and cheese reception with fellow attendees.

Indian Music at the TM

Indian Music Performance at The TM on January 15
Enjoy a special evening of classical Indian music performed on the sitar and surbahar on Thursday, January 15. This is the third program of the museum’s Evenings at The TM series-a dynamic set of events on topics ranging from Arabian cuisine to contemporary art quilts, inspired by The Textile Museum’s current exhibitions.

New Hours at the TM

December 17, 2008–
The Textile Museum Announces New Hours to Take Effect in April 2009

Effective April 2009 The Textile Museum will be closed to the public on Mondays. The Textile Museum is currently open Monday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 to 5 pm. Hours under the new Tuesday through Sunday schedule will remain the same. The TM’s library, which is currently closed for reorganization, will reopen in September 2009 for eight hours per week.
